Two presentations illustrated the diversity of research within the BIOTIC community.

Matthieu Legendre (DR CNRS, IGS) studied giant viruses and their complex interactions using multi-omics approaches, highlighting their diversity and their role in cellular networks. (présentation PDF)

Capucine Lecam-Ligier (PhD student, MIO) studied bioluminescent bacteria in mesopelagic fish, revealing their role in the biological carbon pump based on metabarcoding data. These presentations led to rich discussions that continued during the coffee break (présentation PDF).

Round table: Metabarcoding
The discussion focused on the development of a specialised metabarcoding training for 2025, aimed at deciphering microbial diversity from genetic markers. The training will be primarily aimed at members of the BIOTIC network and will cover aspects such as marker selection, sequencing strategies (short/long reads) and diversity analysis. Tools such as R, RStudio and virtual machines will be used, with content adapted to different skill levels.

Round Table: Spatial Transcriptomics
This session explored the bioinformatics technologies and challenges associated with spatial transcriptomics, such as data resolution, storage and 3D analysis. The discussion highlighted the importance of bioinformaticians in experimental design and data standardisation. BIOTIC could offer training courses and promote FAIRisation initiatives to structure this rapidly growing field.

These exchanges reflect BIOTIC's commitment to developing appropriate training courses and bringing the scientific community together around new technologies.
